Established in 1998, the Velugu Association (VA) originated with a group of dedicated individuals possessing extensive experience in serving marginalized communities. Headquartered in Kotturu, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh, India, VA is a registered society under the Societies Act. The organization is dedicated to working with the most underprivileged community, specifically Adivasis, in Parvathipuram Manyam District and Srikakulam District. VA places a special emphasis on livelihood development through sustainable management, focusing on land, water, and forest initiatives.
VA holds the belief that development is a collaborative effort led by the community itself, with the organization serving as a genuine facilitator. Recognizing the community’s inherent capacity to manage implications, VA sees its role as providing appropriate guidance and facilitation. As a responsive socio-economic development organization, our primary focus is to disseminate information on government-led development and welfare activities. Additionally, we strive to enhance the community’s capacities and empower community institutions through knowledge-sharing initiatives. VA is committed to a rights-based approach, actively facilitating communities in asserting their legitimate rights as guaranteed by the constitution. Through the support of funding partners at both national and international levels, we have successfully reached and served unreached communities in the district.
Velugu Association (VA) was established through the collaboration of individuals with extensive experience in the social service sector. Mr. Kasina Santa Rao serves the role of President; Mrs. Bidika Hymavati serves as Vice President; Mr. Banala Sanjeeva Rao takes on the position of Secretary; and Mr. Bevera Naryaana Rao acts as the Treasurer of the organization. The board comprises additional dedicated members actively contributing to the organization’s objectives and initiatives.
Enable the empowerment of rural communities by augmenting the capacities of both individuals and institutions. This involves providing education on the judicious utilization of services, opportunities, and existing resources, thereby fostering self- realization and encouraging collective action among community members.
The guiding philosophy of our organization revolves around the principle of “loose and tight,” signifying a flexible approach in operations while remaining steadfast in upholding core values. Velugu Association is rooted in values such as integrity, excellence, optimism, and respect. We firmly believe that, with the right support from civil society organizations and the government, rural communities can be mobilized to formulate their own vision for development and translate their awareness into actionable initiatives.
